AI Enhance is now available to all Google Photos users worldwide.

Google continues to develop its photo editing tools within the Google Photos app, officially launching a new feature called “AI Enhance.” This move reflects the company’s growing focus on integrating artificial intelligence into the user experience.

A simple button with enhanced capabilities.

The new feature appears as a button directly within the photo editor, alongside the existing Enhance and Dynamic tools in the Auto tab. This makes it quick and easy to use without any complications. In testing, the tool demonstrated its ability to improve lighting by restoring details in both bright and dark areas, as well as addressing common issues caused by poor lighting, while also providing a slight color boost.

However, the results aren't revolutionary compared to competing photo enhancement solutions, offering performance similar to what's already available in other tools.

Subtle enhancements instead of drastic changes.

Despite the simplicity of the results, this approach can be an advantage in itself. Some users prefer subtle adjustments that preserve the naturalness of an image, rather than drastic changes that can make it appear unrealistic. The feature is now available to all Android users worldwide and appears to be free at the moment, but notably, Google indicates that “results vary by device,” suggesting that part of the processing takes place on the phone itself. However, the tool does not fully function offline, meaning it still partially relies on a cloud connection.
