Apple Makes Major Change to Apple Card: Details Here

Apple, in collaboration with JPMorgan Chase, has confirmed a significant change in the issuer of the Apple Card. Chase will officially assume this role during a transition period of approximately 24 months, a move Apple describes as reassuring for users.

Chase, the New Issuer of the Apple Card

In an official statement, Apple explained that JPMorgan Chase will become the new issuer of the Apple Card, succeeding Goldman Sachs, which partnered with Apple since the card's launch in 2019.

Apple has published a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page on its official website to clarify the details of the transition and answer user inquiries.

Service Continues Without Immediate Changes
During the transition period, Apple confirmed that the Apple Card will continue to function normally without any changes to how the card is used, and Mastercard will remain the accepted payment network. The card balances are eventually to be transferred to accounts with Chase, but Apple has yet to reveal the final mechanism for transferring Apple Savings accounts, stating that it will announce the details in due course.

Background to the Goldman Sachs Partnership Exit
Goldman Sachs incurred financial losses as a result of its partnership with Apple on the Apple Card, prompting its gradual withdrawal from the consumer credit card market. Reports indicate that Apple offered the option to end the partnership in 2023, and since then, lengthy negotiations with Chase have continued for over a year.

JPMorgan Chase is a leading name in the retail banking sector, possessing extensive experience in managing credit cards, rewards programs, and travel points, making it a strong and suitable partner for the Apple Card.

Apple: The Experience Will Remain the Same
Jennifer Bailey, Apple's Vice President of Apple Pay and Apple Wallet, stated that the company is proud of the different experience the Apple Card has provided in the world of credit cards, emphasizing Apple's commitment to empowering users to make more informed financial decisions. Although some changes may occur in the future as the transition is completed, Apple has stressed that it will notify users in advance of any updates, and at the moment there is nothing to worry about, as the card will continue to work just as smoothly and simply.
